Gutek tente aussi le record de l’Atlantique!

Zbigniew 'Gutek' Gutkowski, premier Polonais à avoir pris part au Vendée Globe, s'est fixé la tâche d'établir un nouveau record entre New York et Cap Lizard (Cornouailles) en 60 pieds. Soit un parcours de 2 880 miles que Marc Guillemot est lui aussi sur le point d’effectuer. Relier la côte est d’Amérique du Nord au sud-ouest du Royaume-Uni –(en partant du phare Ambrose Tower Light de New York pour arriver au Cap Lizard en Cornouailles) n'est pas chose facile. Avec de mauvaises conditions météorologiques et de grandes difficultés tout au long du voyage, cette tentative de record se révèle comme l’une des navigations les plus difficiles que le skipper d’Energa aura entrepris jusque là. Mais après avoir terminé les préparatifs intensifs pour le lancement du bateau la semaine dernière, Gutek est prêt à affronter l'Atlantique pour un nouveau défi sportif. Cette traversée sera également un moyen de tester la résistance du monocoque dans des conditions extrêmes. Pour le moment, le duo est toujours à la recherche des bonnes conditions pour s’élancer : « Je ne peux pas encore dire avec exactitude quel jour aura les conditions idéales pour un départ. Les prévisions que l’on peut effectuer ne couvre qu’une période de 36 heures et ne sont que pures suppositions, explique Zbigniew Gutkowski. L’essentiel est de déterminer la situation atmosphérique, qui pourrait être la même durant toute la durée de la traversée de l'Atlantique. Mais ce n’est pas évident, car la difficulté du parcours réside dans le fait qu’il arrive parfois qu'une fenêtre de beau temps s’installe en milieu de parcours et littéralement vous garder bloqué. Le jour où j’ai navigué dans la bai de New York, les conditions étaient idéales. J’attends toujours qu’il y en ait des similaires. Le Trimaran IDEC était là avant nous et est toujours dans l’attente aussi, mais son équipe a rapporté qu’il n’y avait pas de fenêtre pour l’instant. Et nous avons exactement les mêmes informations à ce sujet. » L’objectif de Gutek est de battre le record établi par le Britannique Alex Thomson en 8 jours, 21 heures et 8 minutes (record précédemment détenu par le Suisse Bernard Stamm en 2002, en 10 jours, 55 minutes et 19 secondes). http://www.vendeeglobe.org/
