Guinness World Records in windsurfing

'Camille Juban awarded Guinness World Record'    PWA World Tour

Windsurfing has earned a well-respected space in the Guinness World Records book, with quite an extensive number of unexpected entries.

The Guinness World Records is a widely recognized authority on record-breaking achievement, but it does not contemplate all windsurfing records.

Nevertheless, we found some curious facts and figures. So, what's officially amazing in the outstanding world of numbers, stunts and rare features?

Windsurfing at the highest latitude: Gerard-Jan Daniel Goekoop, from the Holland, sailed alongside the pack-ice of the Arctic Ocean at 80º 40.3' N., 13º 43' E, north of the Spitsbergen archipelago, on the 14th July, 1985. He was the doctor of the Dutch expedition ship 'Plancius'.

The longest windsurfing wave: Camille Juban sailed one wave for seven minutes and three seconds, at Chicama, Peru, on the 19th August, 2013.

The oldest windsurfer: Otto Comanos, from Australia, was born on the 16th November 1913, in Greece. After retiring in 1986, he started windsurfing and sailed two to three times a week, in and around the lakes of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

The longest windsurfing journey:
Brazilian windsurfers Flavio Jardim and Diogo Guerreiro, sailed from Chui to Oiapoque, along the Brazilian coast, for 8,120 kilometers (5,045 miles), between 17th May, 2004, and 18th July, 2005, as part of the Blue Destination Expedition.

The greatest distance in flat water for a day: Simon Kloostra sailed 311 kilometers (193.25 miles), between 9m and 8pm, at Gouzee Lake, near Amsterdam, Netherlands, on the 30th April, 2007.

The longest windsurfing marathon: The record for the longest windsurfing marathon is 71 hours and 30 minutes and was set by Sergiy Naidych, from Ukraine, at Radyschev Lake, Simerferopol, Crimea, Ukraine, between sixth-9th June, 2003.

The longest windsurf race: The longest windsurf race is the Lancelin Ocean Classic Windsurfing Marathon, held annually in Lancelin, Australia. The course measured 25.62 kilometers (15.92 miles), on the 12th January, 2008.

The most PWA World Championship titles: Bjorn Dunkerbeck, from Switzerland, has conquered 41 PWA World Championship titles, between 1988 and 2001. The Swiss won 12 PWA Overall World Championships, 10 PWA Slalom World Championships, five PWA Race World Championships, four PWA Racing World Championships, seven PWA Wave World Championships, one PWA Freestyle World Championships, and one PWA Speed World Championships.
