Gold Coast City Marina to clean up the banks of the Coomera River

by Gold Coast City Marina on 27 Feb 2012
The GCCM team and local community will pitch in to clean up Coomera River. Gold Coast City Marina
For the annual Clean Up Australia Day, the team at Gold Coast City Marina (GCCM) and the local community are getting their hands dirty in a mammoth effort to clean up the banks of the Coomera River this year, Sunday March 4 from 8am to 4pm.

GCCM is calling for locals and recreational boat owners to join with them to keep Coomera’s waterways clean and river banks beautiful.

On Sunday March 4, it will be all hands on deck as the Coomera Magpies AFL team, Coomera River Rowers group, GCCM customers and tenants and a flotilla of local volunteers get stuck in to clean up the Coomera River Banks.

The clean-up event will focus on a vast area of tidal river banks that flow out into the Broad Water here on the Gold Coast.

With over 150 volunteers already signed up, the event’s gearing up to be a success but the more the merrier. In particular, GCCM need more tinnies, dinghies and small boat owners to jump on board and donate their time and boat during the day to have optimal access to all parts of the river’s banks.

Clean Up Team Leader Steve Sammes said the event will be a first for the Coomera River.

'We’re very excited with the prospect of having a combination of both marine industry and recreational boat owners taking part in what is an important task of keeping the waterway that we all enjoy and rely upon, clean and pristine,' he said.

'The Coomera River is such a popular waterway and the local community and marine industry is passionate about the river. We’re hoping to turn that passion into action and get as many helping hands as possible.'
'It’s a great way to make a difference in our own backyard.'

Volunteers are encouraged to make their way down to GCCM on Sunday March 4. Registration and check in for the event will be at 8:00am outside the main Administration building, followed by a briefing. Clean up bags will be provided.

The more support we can get for this event the better our environment will look. If you would like to join our team, get your hands dirty or if you have a boat you can bring along for the day email our Clean Up Team Leader Steve Sammes at steve@gccm.com.au or Tel: 5502 5888.
