Gold Coast Boat Show -a must for anglers
by Marine Queensland on 4 Oct 2007
The Gold Coast Boat Show, scheduled for October 26, 27 and 28, is shaping up as an absolute must for all those who consider themselves ‘keen fishos.’
Boats, engines, trailers, fishing tackle and general boating accessories will be on display at the Carrara Sports Complex and organisers, Marine Queensland, say the industry along the Gold Coast has thrown its full support behind the show.
More than 85 exhibitors will be on hand and with entertainment galore, ample food and drink stalls, a genuine carnival atmosphere will be the order of the weekend.
For the dedicated angler, the Gold Coast Boat Show simply cannot be missed.
The daily fishing expo put together by Bill Corten brings together the finest array of experts ever seen in one place.
Sessions all day every day and a variety of subjects covered will ensure this will be one of the best expos of its kind ever staged outside the capital cities.
Several sessions are aimed fairly and squarely at Gold Coast angling.
They include sessions on Nerang River whiting, Fishing the Gold Coast Seaway, Crabbing Gold Coast Waterways, Whiting from the Broadwater foreshore and Fishing the 30-50 Fathom Lines off Tweed Heads.
Presenters include television personality and angling ‘guru’ Paul Burt, who will show the all important methods to catch mud crabs and discuss tackle innovations for better fishing.
The ‘nippers’ will be well catered for with Dave Moss presenting the Shimano/Squidgy Fishing Show at 4.15pm at the close of each day on the weekend.
Each day at 2pm there’ll be the live weigh in for the Gold Coast Bream Classic.
Barry Hibberd, general manager of Marine Queensland, said the show would highlight the popularity of recreational boating along the Gold Coast.
'More than 13 percent of Queensland’s registered boats are on the Gold Coast,' he said.
In addition to the attractions aimed at the angler, show visitors will also be treated to water skiing and wake boarding demonstrations and a sail-hoisting competition.
'The aim is to offer fun for all the family,' Mr Hibberd added.
Admission to the show is $10 for adults and $8 for students and pensioners. Children under 12 admitted free.
Show hours are 10am to 6pm on all three days.
