The second annual Sunferrries Magnetic Island Race Week, at beautiful Magnetic Island off Townsville in tropical North Queensland, will be sailed from Friday 5th to Tuesday 9th September 2008, under the auspices of the Townsville Cruising Yacht Club.
If an owner/skipper and crew might be interested in racing at Magnetic Island’s second annual race week in September 2008, race organisers will send you the DVD of the 2007 series so you can get a feeling for the event, the venue and the facilities.

Last year's regatta proved a huge success. It was a hard fought contest and the IRC division winner was not decided until the last Round the Bay Race.
Tasmanian Harold Clark sailed his Invincible to a series victory by just 15 seconds on handicap from Zoe, Wayne Millar's Murray 41 from the Townsville Cruising Yacht Club.
After the final race Clark commented, 'That was one of most high pressure races we've ever sailed, this whole trip has been a great adventure and certainly it has been memorable.'
Wayne Millar remarked 'the inaugural regatta was a very well organised regatta...very good on water management, in some challenging conditions. We expect the 2008 regatta will be bigger and better, with a top quality fleet.'
Regatta Director Denis Thompson is looking forward to the 2008 series. 'This venue has enormous potential; the local sailing community has worked hard to make it a success. The facilities are excellent, marina water depths are better than we expected with quite deep drafted yachts able to use the outer harbour and the water provide great sailing.'
Event organisers will be happy to provide more information on local conditions, logistics, accommodation and water depths.
With the success of last year behind them, organisers have vowed to create an even more exciting regatta including more activities available to build the atmosphere of the regatta.
This year the iconic country rock band, the Wolverines will be entertaining sailors and familes during the regatta.

Registration packs have been sent out to 78 yacht clubs from as far north as Port Moresby and South to the tail end of the East Australian Coast.
Over 100 New Zealand Sailing Clubs have received details on Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week. There has already been significant interest from this region and event organisers are anticipating a number of New Zealand entrants.
