Garner too good in SB3 Australian Championships

Royal Geelong Yacht Club sailor Brendan Garner has clinched the SB3 Class Australian Championships by a comfortable eight points from Tom Rosoman’s Laser Performance representing Mordialloc Sailing Club on Port Phillip. Third on the overall pointscore was Kai Timm’s Oceanburo from Queensland.

The final race of the nine race series got underway in light winds but was eventually abandoned by the race committee due to a 50 degree wind shift.

The race was re-run for the trailer yachts and SB3’s and while it wasn’t Garner’s best, a fifth due to fact they got caught up with the trailerables on the downwind run, he is delighted with their series win after finishing runner up last year.

'It’s been a great series. Our race committee was fantastic, you couldn’t fault them.

'The whole regatta was great, so much work has gone into it and it went off without a hitch.

'All the SB3 sailors had a good time, as always, with the first timers saying they’ll be back next year.

'Skandia Geelong Week just keeps getting better and better,' Garner added.
