The Global Marina Institute (GMI) will have a strong presence at the ICOMIA World Marinas Conference in Istanbul 2-4 June. GMI was formed in 2011 as a partnership between British Marine Federation and Marina Industries Association.
Though its partners it delivers global marina training and certification with the aim of maintaining and increasing standards in marinas across the world. The three day international conference provides the opportunity for a full agenda of events including a GMI Board meeting and a networking reception for certified marina managers and key marina personnel on the eve of the Conference.
During the Conference GMI Chairman Mick Bettesworth will be presenting certificates to three Certified Marina Managers (CMMs) and announcing the winners of two international scholarships for GMI training. Along with MIA President Andrew Chapman he will be delivering a session on the importance of marina education and training for the development and growth of marinas around the world.
According to Mick Bettesworth this level of activity is important. 'These conferences bring together the key players in the global marina industry. The event provides GMI with an excellent platform to update industry on GMI developments and to promote the benefits of the training provided by GMI partners the BMF and the MIA.'
GMI director Oscar Siches believes the GMI activities linked to the World Marina Conference will be very important to help increase the up-take of GMI courses in emerging marina markets as well as some established markets. 'We are seeing the acceptance of the training need of marina personnel at all levels. It is becoming almost contagious, and GMI leads recognition in Asia and Europe. The opportunities for growth in marina training are worldwide.'
