Frostbite Series - Race 5 and 6 at Royal Southampton YC

'Class 2 Laser 28 ’Blazer’ - 2013 RSYC Doyle Sails Frostbite Series'    John Greenway
The only way to describe the weather this Sunday was cold, very wet and miserable and yet twenty-six boats made it to the start line in the opening race of the day. The weather forecast was far from enticing but they are a tough lot who do the Frostbite Series.

In the Class 1 fleet in Race 5, Simon Herring in Alice crossed the line first and took first place on corrected time but Jiggery Pokery were only 20 seconds behind on corrected time and took second place. They were followed home by Paul Austin in Winston and Nick and Adam Munday in IndulJence.

In Race 6, Charles Ivill in Jiggery Pokery got the better of Alice and came home first on corrected time followed by IndulJence who also got the better of Winston this time. After not entering the first two races of the series, Jiggery Pokery now have a 4,3,2,1 points record so let’s see where they come in Race 7 in two weeks’ time.

In Class 2 the battle between Blazer and Erik the Red continues but this weekend belonged to Blazer. Colin Woodruff in Blazer made it two first places over Bernard Fyans’ Erik the Red who had two second places. They were followed home in both races by Christopher Burleigh in Yogi and Jacob Mackenzie in Glass Onion.

In Class 3 Andrew Campbell dominated both races in Faze 3 and came home first in both on elapsed and corrected time. In Race 5, he was followed in on corrected time by Colin Hall in Spitfire and Peter Slimming in Anne Louise but Serendip 4 with Paul King took second with Anne Louise third again in Race 6.

With just four races to go Alice has a commanding Series lead in Class 1. It is very tight in Class 2 between Blazer and Erik the Red and all to play for between Faze 3 and Jammin in Class 3. So let us hope for better weather for Races 7 and 8 in two weeks’ time with no rain please!
