First finishers home in Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge

'Rona II in the parade of sail - Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge'    Sail Training International
In the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge, Peter von Danzig and Rona II both crossed the finish line last night in a close run race between the two vessels. Rona II crossed at 1839 GMT and Peter Von Danzig slightly ahead of them at 1808.

It appears that Peter von Danzig is heading direct for Tenerife for some repairs to her damaged spinnaker, while Rona II is heading for some rest and relaxation in Las Palmas, Grand Canaries before heading on to Tenerife for next Thursday 14 May, the start of the four day festival.

Rona II report that they had a cracking sail to the finish line under spinnaker but just before crossing the line the sheet broke free from the spinnaker pole and only the prompt action by a trainee on the helm saved the spinnaker from any damangae and kept it flying free until over the line.

Well done to both. More finishers are expected later today.
