Roads and Maritime Services has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence for the safe staging of the Bridge to Bridge ski race this Sunday on the Hawkesbury River from Dangar Island to Windsor Bridge between 8am and 3pm.
Acting Director Maritime Michael Wright said during the race, provision will be in place for local water traffic to move at a no wash speed along the shore from Milsons Passage to Brooklyn and downstream of Bar Point to Little Wobby.
'A number of control vessels will be on the water for the duration of the race, there will also be control points on the shore. For safety reasons, spectators must stay anchored and away from the racing line,' Mr Wright said.
'Ferries will be able to operate at reduced capacity during the Bridge to Bridge when it is considered safe.
'Those in boats not involved in the event should not enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.
'Roads and Maritime reminds people to wear a lifejacket when boating.
'In the past decade, nine out of 10 people who drowned while boating weren’t wearing a lifejacket.
'People need to make putting on a lifejacket a habit, a bit like putting on sunscreen, because one day it might just save your life,' he said.
