Musto, Australia’s leading marine apparel company, is the headline naming rights sponsor for the 2011 Etchells Australasian Winter Championship.
Musto Australasia managing director, Duncan Curnow, said Musto had a proud history of supporting the Mooloolaba Etchells with the 2011 instalment marking the fourth consecutive year Musto has been involved with the event.
'Musto is, and always will be, committed to supporting events of this nature. We know it is about much more than providing sponsorship assistance. It is about supporting the sailing community at grass roots level and helping to ensure this class of sailing can continue to be enjoyed by future generations,' Mr Curnow said.
An important element in the success of the Etchells Winters has been the consistency and number of sponsoring and supporting companies. Musto’s willingness to again lead the charge reinforces to the Australasian sailing community the strength of the event’s status within the sport.

Mooloolaba Etchells Fleet Captain, Trevor Martin, delighted by the support of Musto, predicts that next year’s event will again attract a fleet of up to 60 Etchells. 'We have consistently welcomed over 50 boats for the last four years. In some ways I am astounded by the success of this event. But then I look at the venue both on and off the water. Easy, quick access to the open water, heaps of choices of accommodation right next to the regatta administration area, plenty of places to eat, drink and party after racing and warm winter sunshine – what else would you want when it comes to a great regatta ?', Martin said.
In its fifteenth year, this unique event, where the best Australasian Etchells sailors annually congregate in Mooloolaba to contest the six-race series, is expected to be another great year of racing with a few parties thrown in.
While the sailors are battling it out on the water, their family members will be able to enjoy the hospitality of Mooloolaba. Included in next year’s program will be a twist in Musto’s special regatta event. Fashion will again be high on the agenda, while the festivities will also include a special guest speaker to entertain the crowd and a long lunch at a stunning river-side venue, all in aid of Sailability Sunshine Coast, the chosen local charity for the Musto Etchells.
