Erwin Schell Trophy at Edgewood YC

by John Mollicone on 30 Oct 2012
2012 Erwin Schell Trophy Rob Migliaccio
The 2012 Erwin Schell Trophy took place at Brown University/Edgewood Yacht Club over the October 27th-28th. On Saturday, North/Northeast winds started the day at 4-8 knots. There were periods of no wind and delays with an eventual easterly filling in at 5-8 knots for the last races of the day. All courses were W4's. Two protests resulting in DSQ's for Connecticut College and URI's B-division.

On Sunday, October 28th, with Sandy knocking on the door, competitors arrived to overcast skies, drizzle, cold temps, and a building easterly breeze. Racing began in 8-12 knots and slowly built throughout the day with some of the later races seeing gusts around 20 knots.

All W4 courses and no protests or breakdowns. Great racing throughout the day with the last race started at 4:15pm. A huge thanks to all of the competitors for sticking around to help breakdown the Brown fleet in preparation for the storm. Thanks to our judge Kerry Sullivan and to Brown sailors Drew Shea, Alexandra Swanson, Katherine Sudol, Reid Secondo, and Albert Brown for helping out.

Congratulations to Yale on winning the 71st Erwin Schell Trophy and leading from start to finish. The top eight teams qualify for the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship at King's Point in two weeks.
