'RYCV female members are ready to compete - come and join them! - Port Phillip Women’s Championship Series'

The Royal Yacht Club of Victoria (RYCV) is inviting entries from female sailors for the Val Hodge Trophy Race this Sunday, 24th February. Starting at 11am, the race is open to female helms; crews can be of any mix. Entry is $30. The race is new on the RYCV calendar this year and has been introduced to be Race 2 in the inaugural Port Phillip Women’s Championship Series (PPWCS). Dedicated to RYCV’s first female skipper, the Val Hodge Trophy is one of five races in PPWCS, each run by a different club at the top end of the bay. While a lot has changed since Val joined RYCV in 1985 - Val now lives in Queensland, and there are now many more women helming boats! - the essence of being a female helm remains the same. It’s all about getting out there, having fun and competing with like-minds. The first race in PPWCS – the Jennifer Goldsmith Trophy held last Sunday 17th February – saw 26 boats compete. The light breeze didn’t deter some great racing and the girls hotly contested the trophy. That was a light boat day – with the smallest boat in the fleet taking out PHD, AMS and IRC. But the weather is the weather – and anything could happen this weekend! More information about the Val Hodge Trophy Race, including NOR, Sailing Instructions and online entry here.
