Emirates Team NZ take the only race sailed and Louis Vuitton Trophy
|
The final day of the Louis Vuitton Trophy, although a relief for Emirates Team NZ, proved to be a non-event with only one race being sailed in the shortened series, and the course again being taken out of the inner Waitemata Harbour. For the second day in a row the wind forced direction forced organisers to move the course around to the outer Waitemata harbour. After a split tack start, with Emirates team New Zealand opting for the Committee Boat end, and Mascalzone taking the extreme pin end. From there the Kiwis were never headed, although the 34th America's Cup Challenger, Mascalzone Latino was never ahead, although they were up on the advantage several times during the first leg. At the windward mark for the first time it was Emirates Team NZ ahead by just 8 seconds, with Mascalzone Latino astern and inside. There were calls to the umpires for a mark touch from the Kiwis, which was no sustained. From there the Kiwis drew slowly but steadily away to lead by 100metres, and stretched away to lead by 21 seconds at the bottom mark, and won by a 200 metre margin, to take the Louis Vuitton Trophy, with just two races sailed in the Final.
