“Rollercoaster” is the sickeningly appropriate word that’s been bandied about in the headlines this past week. After months of record highs, the Aussie dollar dropped to a four-year low, stockmarkets around the world plummeted, interest rates too have taken a miniscule reduction – the only economic positive and mostly psychological for mortgagees.
For all of us, it’s a ‘wait and see’ situation, watching what happens in the US, how it impacts us and the results of their upcoming election, and locally, waiting for the economy to stabilize.
This week, despite the harrowing market conditions, there is some good news in the marine realm: Southport Yacht Club is investing in youth, training and organizing camps for young people, Maritimo announces plans for its massive 50-tonne+ 73 Sky Lounge, to be launched at SIBS next year, Darwin marine businesses have opportunities for skilled labour from other states and India will recognise boating excellence with its own awards in December this year.
We also present a profile on Iain Murray and his latest achievements: representing Australia at the Beijing Olympic Games (the oldest debutante at 50) and focusing on developing the Azzura Yachts brand of superyachts in international markets.
