Driving it like they stole it...

Great to be cutting loose at last John Mangino http://www.icupusa.com/
The Objective Australia Team have been out on the water the past couple of days.

In the words of Coach Traks Gordon...

'It's hard to believe we are already 10 days into our San Francisco preparations for the Red Bull Youth America's Cup. There is no room for complacency and no point in looking in in the mirror on September 5 wondering what else we could have done to prepare. Eight of Australia's fittest, most successful, and diverse young sailors have embarked upon the most most extreme sailing competition of its kind. The equipment is cutting edge technology and requires untold amounts of work to optimise, maintain and develop.

The schedule is gruelling starting at 5am to cover the administration, planning, logistics, and nutrition required to endure the seven day a week format. Bed time is 11. If we are not sailing we are working on the boat, in the gym, in front of a camera, eating, debriefing or asleep. None of us have ventured more than 100 metres from a direct route between our apartment to our operations centre and that is a 200 metre walk! Every second of the day is full to the brim and one must factor in extra time to talk to the crowds that peer through the fences at the activity surrounding the Red Bull Youth America's Cup base.

We are overwhelmed by the interest this event is generating. We are so excited to be here representing Australia and we are doing everything in our power to be a player on race day.

On Day two of sailing the AC45s we saw all 10 teams practicing on the city front race track in front of many viewers. The conditions were spectacular and gave us a real excitement and anticipation for what awaits in 18 days time. A moderate sea breeze, raging tide the imposing sea wall course boundary was everything we dreamed of. The race track is going to be tight, busy and spectacular, this is certain. The team is really beginning to find its rhythm and sailing fast. Every team here looks fit, strong and capable of success. Nobody has come here to be a participant... We are going to have to fight for this title'

We'll keep you updated with some comments from the team themselves once they get some rhythm after the pace of the past two weeks.

There are no half measures where English weather is concerned. There are no half measures where English weather is concerned. Happily, that means that when it’s good it very, very good. Blue skies, sunshine, 23 deg C, clean air, and the whole place looks as if has put on a party frock and got lit up. Wonderful.
