At the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, Thierry Schmitter is leading the 2.4mR class after two days of competition. The Dutch sailor is the big favourite for Olympic gold later this year during the Paralympics in London.
His preparation involves competing in Medemblik. 'I want to win the last Dutch World Cup. A race is a race, a title is a title. I’m very motivated in Medemblik. It’s the last time the regatta is a World Cup and I’m leading.’’
Later this year he hopes to win a gold medal in the London Paralympics. 'Medemblik is a part of my preparation. The gold medal in London would be nice’’, says the sailor, who won bronze at the Paralympics in Athens (2004) and came fifth four years ago in Beijing.
'I still have a lot of things to do, but at this moment it feels good. I’m going to try to consolidate my first place here.’’
