At the 2014 Contender World Championship, being sailout out of Belmont 16 foot Skiff Club on Lake Macquarie, north of Sydney Australia there is finally with some decent wind - up to 25 knots and the boats were romping for races 7, 8 and 9. The reaches were fast and furious with lots of opportunities for gains and losses.

In race 8, four boats were capsized at the wing mark at one time. In the first two races, Mark Bulka increased his lead over the consistent Jono Neale with a one and a two with Jono scoring a two and a three. Matt Mulder again proved he is unbeatable in over 20 knots by winning race 8, the windiest race so far of the Worlds.

Race 9 started in dramatic fashion with the north east wind gusting to 25 knots and Mark Bulka capsizing at the port end of the line right on the start signal. After starting a good last, he managed to fight his way through the fleet up to fifth but with Jono finally managing to clinch a win and two drops now coming into the point score.

Jono Neate takes the lead overall with a two point advantage over Mark Bulka. Third overall looks safe for Christoph Homeier from Germany after finishing the day with two threes and a four.

Local boy Michael Brown, fairly new to Contenders, is having a great regatta and should finish in the top 10. Forecast wind for the final race Saturday is 20 to 25 knots from the south east. It should be an exciting finale.
