Coastguard Boating Education: PWC and Powerboat handling at Boat Show
|
Coastguard Boating Education will provide handling demonstrations using a 'Sea-Doo' PWC / Jet Ski and Powerboat Handling at the Auckland International Boat Show this year. A qualified RYA instructor will manoeuvre the Personal Water Craft through a course on the Viaduct Harbour and demonstrate handling techniques, safe righting and boarding procedures. Demonstrations will take place 1pm daily, on the water next to the big floating bridge, accompanied by a running commentary. Coastguard Boating Education offers the RYA PWC 1 day practical (on-water) course. Designed for first time and experienced riders alike, this course is ideal for those wishing to quickly attain competence and knowledge as well as those wanting to develop and hone their skills. The course includes everything from pre-launch checks, what safety equipment to carry, collision avoidance and local by-laws, through to control at low and high speed, dealing with emergencies, capsizing and righting. Coastguard Boating Education would also like to invite all attendees to participate in the Powerboat Handling Challenge at the Auckland International Boat Show. The Challenge consists of negotiating a tight floating course at a low speed against the clock aboard a MAC 420 training boat – under the watchful eye of a professional RYA Powerboat Instructor. The aim is to showcase the benefits of RYA practical boating courses. No matter what your level of experience, our aim is for all participants to have some fun – and learn a thing or two. With guidance from our qualified instructors even a complete beginner will achieve manoeuvring through the course. Come and take up the challenge! For more information visit www.cbes.org.nz or phone the team on 0800 40 80 90. The Auckland International Boat Show in partnership with Voyager NZ Maritime Museum, Coastguard Boating Education, Water Safety Auckland Inc, NZ Waterwise, Oil Spill Response and Enviro Schools are offering water safety education to local schools. The programme is held on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th March and promises to be both educational and fun. The programme aims to educate students on the importance of water safety and caring for the environment as the statistics for drowning in NZ are over represented. The exciting action-packed day experience includes 6 half hour sessions; communications – VHF radio, flares, cellphone activities; oil spill; environmental; water safety; museum visit; yacht rigging and safety.
