The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race start is fast approaching and Garmin, the global GPS technology company, has now officially named its yacht, part of the new state of the art fleet of ocean racers debuting in the latest edition of the Race.

The founder of the Clipper Race, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Anthony Chmarny, PR Manager Europe for Garmin, christened the 70ft ocean racer, Team Garmin, which is competing in the Clipper 13-14 Race.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said: 'It is with great pleasure that I am here today to officially name the boat, Team Garmin.

'It will be very interesting to see how Team Garmin do sailing round the world, as the world’s leading manufacturers of marine electronics and satellite navigation equipment.'

Garmin also announced their two official Ambassadors who will represent the brand globally.

Selected for their motivation, enthusiasm and ambassadorial qualities, the Ambassadors will attend events such as VIP gala dinners, experiential sail days and seminars around the world.

Kees Postma, a 22-year-old Software Architect from Belgium, was selected. Kees said: 'I have always thought that Garmin was such a cool brand. When I applied for the Ambassador role, Garmin asked me what I am most looking forward to during the circumnavigation. The answer is simple - a big storm. I want to test and push myself to the limit and prove, just like the Garmin products, I too can withstand the toughest of conditions, and help lead my team to victory.'

The other ambassador is Kristi Wilson.
