Clipper Round the World Yacht Race - Jamaica is named ahead

by Ruth Harrington on 30 Aug 2013 The Jamaica Tourist Board, third time Team Sponsors of the Clipper Race, officially named their yacht entry last night, part of the new state of the art fleet of ocean racers debuting in the latest edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

The founder and chairman of the Clipper Race, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and the Jamaican High Commissioner Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, christened the 70ft ocean racer, Jamaica Get All Right, which is competing in the Clipper 13-14 Race.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, said, 'Jamaica has always been one of the most popular locations amongst our crew when we visited in past editions of the Clipper Race. The Jamaica Get All Right crew are extremely proud to be representing Jamaica and I know they will do their very best to represent such a beautiful country.'

Celebrities such as Levi Roots of Dragons Den fame were on hand to wish the crew a safe voyage while soaking up the Jamaican-themed hospitality ahead of Race Start this Sunday (Sunday, 1 September).

For the third time in the history of the race, the fleet will visit Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio.

Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, the High Commissioner to Jamaica, said: 'Jamaicans love a challenge. It doesn't matter whether it is on the sports field or in business, Jamaicans love to rise to the occasion and give it their best shot. This year's Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will provide an opportunity to surprise the world again, with our passion for competition and our determination. The crew have not only been trained to endure the challenges of round the world sailing, they have been trained in how to be Jamaican!

'From our colourful language and love of music to our jerk cooking and rum, we have made sure they take a bit of Jamaica with them whichever port they sail into.

'We give our Jamaica crew our very best wishes for a safe and successful challenge as the Clipper Race yachts make their way around the world. When they arrive next May in Port Antonio, Jamaica, we will ensure they are given a warm welcome and a chance to have a wonderful time on our beautiful island.'

The Clipper 13-14 Race will set off from St Katharine Docks, London on Sunday, 1 September on a 40,000-mile journey around the globe, making it the world’s longest ocean race, stopping at 15 ports on six continents over 11 months. For more information visit event website
