Race 5 Day 2 - The race to the Scoring Gate gets underway - Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2013/2014 Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race
Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2013-14 is on day 2 of Race 5. With the lure of extra points and the prospect of improving overall standings in the race, the scoring gate is proving too much of a temptation for the fleet to resist as Race 5 gets set to shake up the leaderboard.
With PSP Logistics re-joining Race 5 yesterday, all of the 12 teams have now readjusted to life at sea with the competition in full swing. With such a short distance to Race 5 finish, tactics will play an important part for each team to ensure it is one step ahead.
Within the next few hours OneDLL, Henri Lloyd and Old Pulteney will challenge each other for the valuable points up for grabs which will see the first three yachts through the Scoring Gate awarded 3, 2 and 1 points respectively.
With just 6 points separating third place OneDLL from second place GREAT Britain on the overall leaderboard, the Dutch entry which is currently leading Race 5 will be taking full advantage to sneak up ahead of the British entry which currently lies in eleventh place in Race 5. Skipper of Old Pulteney Patrick van der Zijden summed up the opportunity:
'At the moment we are slightly off the beaten track as you can see on the Race Viewer, because we are on our way to the Scoring Gate, never before we had such good opportunity to collect some points.'
