Clipper Round the World Race - Final teams approach Brisbane finish

by Clipper Ventures on 9 Jan 2014
Race 7 Day 6 - Brisbane in sight for final teams - Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2013/2014 Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race
Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is on day 6 of race 7. With just miles separating the final few teams from race finish in Brisbane, Australia the crew and skippers are looking forward to some much deserved rest ahead of preparations for leg 5, the 5,000nm race to Qingdao, China.

After a dramatic start to Race 7 for Mission Performance, skipper Matt Mitchell remains upbeat and resolute as he reflects on all he has done and learnt during the testing 1075 mile race:

'There has been lots of dramas and excitement in Leg 4. I got to do the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, put out a proper mayday call, and let off a flare, as well as talk to a helicopter pilot and say that I have been across the notorious Bass Strait three times (not to the pilot).'

As the final four teams approach Brisbane it will be time to say goodbye to crew leaving the race and welcome the fresh new crew eager to jump on board and get started. Skipper of PSP Logistics, Chris Hollis pays a fitting tribute to his team.
'I would just like to say thank you to the crew, especially the outgoing crew for a highly entertaining leg. We need a bigger boat to bring you all with us. Having said that, we are eagerly awaiting a new adventure with our new recruits joining us tomorrow for Leg 5 to China. Big shoes to fill after these guys, but I am sure it won’t be a problem.'

It was a day of celebration all round for Switzerland yesterday after claiming its first win and podium position of the Clipper 2013-14 Race. However, the good news didn’t stop there after it was announced Switzerland had also won the Ocean Sprint, in an impressive 18 hours 3 minutes winning two points and securing 14 points overall for Race 7.

All positions reported as at the time of writing and are changing frequently.
