Clipper Round the World Yacht Race - With positions finalised and pennants awarded for Race one, it’s time for the teams to get ready to set sail again and soon they will be off in the Stormhoek Race to the Cape of Storms.

It is crew changeover day at the Marina da Gloria, so as the crew from the first leg wave goodbye to their team and new crew bunk down in whichever yacht will be their new home for the next few weeks, there seems no better day to announce that the Clipper Race Official Wine Partner Stormhoek is sponsoring Race two from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Cape Town, South Africa.

The Stormhoek Race to the Cape of Storms gets underway on Wednesday seven October. Compared to Race one it will seem like a straight sprint across the South Atlantic Ocean where surfing down swells of 20 knots will become the norm and bring huge smiles to whoever is at the helm. There will be plenty of challenges along the way but in essence the crew knows that a warm South African welcome awaits in Cape Town.

IchorCoal Skipper Darren Ladd says: “On our team we have such strong links to South Africa with IchorCoal being our Team Sponsor and the Sapinda Rainbow Foundation ambassadors in our crew, so we really want to put on a good show in the Stormhoek Race to the Cape of Storms and will be hoping to make everyone proud as we sail into what is effectively our home port.

“At the Race one prize-giving ceremony last night we were awarded the Stormhoek Social Spirit Award and I couldn’t be prouder of my crew. Every one of them has shown such courage and strength throughout the race so far. Having finished Race one in sixth place there is a real self-belief and determination throughout IchorCoal now and I think our team spirit is possibly our greatest asset. Hopefully in Cape Town we will be sipping some Stormhoek Wine as we welcome in a few of the other teams.”

Race two: The Stormhoek Race to Cape of Storms from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to V&A Waterfront Marina, Cape Town, starts at 1500 local time / 1800UTC on Wednesday seven October.
