Cleveland Race Week - 71 strong one-design fleet to battle in Ohio

A fleet of 71 one-design boats took part in Cleveland Race Week at Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, Ohio from June 14-16. Seven fleets competed, including twenty Tartan 10s seeking the title of T10 Lake Erie Champion.

Light and inconsistent breeze on Saturday allowed only the J/105s to complete a race. Sunday dawned with winds between 14-16 knots, and all fleets were able to run three races. The Tartan 10s began their Championship on Friday, when they tallied two contests in breeze between 10-12 knots.

The Fleet winners:

Tartan 10: Team IBall, Scott Irwin, 1-1-1-1-3 (7)
J/22: The Jug 4 1, Chris Doyle, 1-3-1 (5)
J/70: USA32, David Ullman, 1-1-1 (3)
J/24: Fugue State, Kevin O’Brien, 1-1-1 (3)
Dragon: The Schmucks, Joe Pease, 7/DNF-1-2 (10)
J/105: It, Mindy Sminchak, 1-1-1-1 (4)
Ensign: Jager, Jim Collins, 1-1-1 (3)

Able to drop a 16 from race one, the team of Healy, Nathan Housberg (bow), Alden Reid (trim) and Marcus Eagan (tactics) kept scores of four, four, seven, two, one for 18 net points and the victory.

But John Brim’s Rimette didn’t seem to mind. He won the first two races, and added a nine, for 11 points and a healthy advantage over Will Welles’ Scamp in second (23 points)
