Class 1 Brazilian Grand Prix - Hard work pays off for Welmax Alianza
|
A sixth-place finish for Welmax (Alianza’s Giorgio Manuzzi and Marit Stromoy) at the 2010 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship Brazilian Grand Prix was deemed a huge success by their team of mechanics who had spent a very long week working hard on the boat. A four day delay in shipping meant that the team lost half the time they anticipated to have working on the raceboat in preparation of the season-opener. 'Normally it takes two to three weeks to rig a boat from scratch but after the delay we only had five days in which to achieve this,' said crew chief Rolf Arnestad, 'It involved a lot of early starts and late finishes for myself, Arne [Venas], Alaisdair [Walker-Munro] and Stefano [Tenconi], but with the help of the other teams, in particular the Victory Team, we were able to get the boat race-ready in time for qualifying yesterday.' Arnestad, who has previously been the crew chief of multiple World Champions Spirit of Norway, and Qatar 96, is relishing the challenge ahead this season, added: 'Coming in to a new team, with a boat I haven’t previously worked on and with a new pilot-pairing is a completely different challenge from what I have done previously in Class 1. At the end of last season Arne and I had decided to move on from racing, but we got a call from Jorn [Tandberg] who asked us to be part of this new project and we couldn’t resist.' http://www.class-1.com/
