The event is said to have been one of the toughest Syndey to Hobart races ever, with only 46 of the 152 starters crossing the finish line. It also propelled a number of today’s yachting heros into the limelight, many of whom will be attending the glitzy cocktail evening.
Yachting heros such as Grant Dalton, Simon Gundry and Kevin Shoebridge, along with yachting commentator Peter Montgomery who reported from Lion during the 1984 race, will be doning a tie and joining in the 25th Anniversary celebrations at the Maritime Museum.
A highlight of the evening will be the opportunity to bid in a charity auction for a berth on Lion when it competes again in the Sydney to Hobart later this year.
In addition to the prospect of participating in the 2009 Sydney to Hobart race, there are also other amazing experiences to be auctioned with proceeds going to the
Lion Maritime Development Charitable Trust’s Youth Development Programme.
Celebrating one of our favourite pastimes alongside one of our greatest victories, the 25th Anniversary of Lion New Zealand is a must attend occasion.
