Cadet National Championship - Up and down for Cadet crews in Adelaide

Victorians Isabella Say and Benjamin Brill, sailing Insayne from Sandringham Yacht Club continued to dominate the International Cadet Dinghy class national championship today, scoring back to back wins following the 1-3 score on the opening day of racing from Adelaide Sailing Club.

However, Tasmanians Alec and Samantha Bailey from Sandy Bay Sailing Club have moved from fourth to second place in Impulse with a 3-2 score today following their opening day 10-1 results.

Third overall after four races is Bubbles sailed by local Adelaide Sailing Club members Jackie Stokes and Katie Mullins who sailed consistently with a scorecard of 5-13-9-4. In fourth and fifth place are two crews from Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Steven Case, sailing Plane Sailing, and Ian Lee and Alex Brzoska in Snakebite, who won a race in the recent world championships in Argentina.

The Bailey siblings, who won two races and placed third overall at the Cadet world championships, came within 28 seconds of the Victorians in race four of the regatta being contested by 82 boats, certainly one of the biggest
junior one-design national championship fleets.

However, fellow Tasmanians Georgina Kennedy and Silas Hamilton, sailing Pour Quoi suffered a dramatic slide down the leaderboard, dropping from second to 26th place in the 81 boat fleet. In contrast to their 2-4 score on day one,
today was a disastrous one with a 26th place in the first race, then an OCS in the second race.

In contrast, fellow Sandy Bay sailors, Ella Connor and Hannah Chadwick lifted Sirocco from 47th to 20th overall with a fourth and a third today following their day one OCS and 15th place.

Best of the other 11 crews from SBSC are Eleanor Ransley and Laura Barker in 10th place and Ellie and Jessica Chesterman in 16th place.
