'Division B start in the final race - 2012 Lipton Cup'

It was a sad start for Michael Hiatt in the first race on the first day of the Lipton Cup Regatta hosted by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. In very light conditions, Living Doll was involved in a collision which resulted in her bowsprit being snapped off and she took no part in the day’s racing. In the Division A IRC fleet, Jason van der Slot’s Calm 2 enjoys a comfortable lead with two wins and a second, ahead of Bruce McCracken’s Ikon and Philip Simpendorfer’s Veloce. In the PHD fleet however, John Williams’ Calm has a narrow lead over Veloce and Calm 2. Division B’s IRC fleet is headed by Grant Botica’s Executive Decision with five points, ahead of Penfold Audi Sport sailed by Dave Ellis and Max Peters’ Top Gun, both on seven points, so the second day’s long race should be very interesting indeed. David Seaman’s Duckmobile scored wins in the first two races and heads the Division B PHD standings despite plummeting to tenth in race 3, sharing first spot with Denis Clarke’s K2, with a very consistent scoreline of five, five and two.
 | With two firsts and a tenth, David Seaman’s Duckmobile heads Division 2 - - 2012 Lipton Cup - Bernie Kaaks | Assailant leads Division C’s IRC fleet ahead of Brendan Kruger’s Wavelength, but scores are very close. The J24 Pacemaker, sailed by Dave Suda, heads the Division C PHD standings by just one point from the S80 Up ‘n Go sailed by Gary Mackinven. It was great to see the veteran Lou Abrahams out on the course today in the hot Sydney 38 fleet. His yacht Challenge lies equal second with Gordon Mather’s Clockwork with Ian Murray’s Cinquante at the head of the table by two points, with a first and two thirds. Cam Rae has the sports boat division shot to pieces with three wins from three races and now sits seven points clear of the second placed Kiss sailed by Greg Scherwinski. Off the beach classes sailed in the Hobson’s Bay area and their results should be available shortly. Full results are available here.
