Malaysian Match Racing team Pulse sponsorship sends them to Korea

Hazwan Hazim Dermawan will create history next year when he and his crew become the first Malaysian team to compete in a World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) event outside of Malaysia. The reigning Malaysian Match Racing Championship (MMRC) winner has secured a long-term sponsorship with Pulse Group PLC, one of Asia’s leading digital research agency listed on the London PLUS Exchange and AC Law, a leading corporate law firm. Pulse and AC Law will help finance Hazwan, who is the skipper and helmsman and his all-Malaysian crew – Syed Ahmad Syahmi Syed Ahmad Hilmi (genoa and spinnaker trimmer), Muhammad Izzat Samdin (bowman), Mohd Hafizi Roslee (mainsheet trimmer) and Hazairul Muhammad (pitman) – for the MMRC as well as the Korea Match Cup qualifiers early next year. Bob Chua, Pulse Group PLC CEO, an expert sailor himself, said: 'Pulse strongly believe yacht racing develops team work, responsibility, focus, confidence and character and other invaluable life skills. We are proud to support a truly Malaysian home-grown team in this world class event.' Vincent Chan, AC Law founder said: 'If you go to a regatta convinced you will only have a good time if you win, then you will miss out a lot in life. The most valuable thing to have in life is to be able to appreciate what you have at the moment, and not to keep wishing for something you don't have.. 'Hazwan’s Team PULSE AC LAW bring into the MMRC this sound mindset and they give their best all the time with whatever little they have with great sportsmanship, humility and quiet confidence, as such Pulse and AC Law are proud to sponsor them.' Hazwan said: 'I am grateful to Pulse and my other co-sponsor AC Law, for coming forward to support the team. Korea looks like a certainty but we are also hoping to compete in many more events. I hope more corporate bodies come forward to help the other young Malaysian sailors.' The MMRC will be held from Oct 20–23 at the purpose built world-class match racing venue of Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort and Spa in Pulau Duyung, Terengganu. The winner will earn a ticket to the Monsoon Cup, the final race of the WMRT 2010 season.
