Perth 2011 - is coming up fast from Dec 3rd around 1,200 sailors from 80 nations will compete in 800 plus boats, 10 classes sailing across six courses. Really had to laugh when talking to John Longley, the Event Director this week. 11. ‘Long John’ is big on analogy - Talking about the event staging he said to me ‘You know when you hook a fish and you are playing with it out there and the fish swims around and swims around, you deal with it. As you get it closer to the beach, the fish suddenly goes ‘heck this isn’t good’ and really starts ripping around the place. - so now the Perth 2011 team are trying to land the fish. Some big weeks ahead, with the Volvo, the AC45 in San Diego, the 49er and 470 Nationals in Perth and next week we will be in Malaysia for the Monsoon Cup, Middle Harbours SORC then it’s the Kings Cup in Phuket and Perth 2011.The Rolex series and the Hobart's, Pittwater Coffs and of course there will be lots more dinghy State and Nation titles over the summer. In the first days of January, we will be back on Lake Macquarie at Wangi Wangi for another high profile Australian Championship - the A Cat's. The top five or more from the last A Cat worlds and the AC guns. Really looking forward to that!! BTW now would be a good time to register for the Festival of Sail, going to be a fascinating few months ahead!! Remember YOUR class or club event news can be delivered to our audience, see the submit buttons on the front page of the site.
