Beneteau Bugle - It's a wrap, but That's Life

by Cheryl Stanton on 27 Mar 2013
SW
It was a day of grins at this year’s Beneteau Bugle, held at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia. Blue skies, rolling seas and 15-20 knots West to North/Westerly winds graced the fleet of thirteen Beneteau sailing yachts of all age and variety from Sydney to Hobart winning First 40 Two True to a some of Beneteau’s classic models from the 80’s like Jerry Browns former Bugle winning First 41s5 Sea Hawk.

Greg Manuals First 47.7 That’s Life took out handicap honours in the spinnaker division ahead of the First 40 Two True and Keith Finch’s First 47.7 Rapid 1. It was close racing amongst the more competitive sailors with a couple of nudges on the way to the finish. In the end it was That’s life’s superior spinnaker work and tactics under the guidance of Vicsail’s two-time 18ft skiff world champion, Michael Coxon, that got them the division and overall win.

Ian Patterson’s Oceanis 343 Sir Les took out the non-spinnaker division. The First 405 La Vie took out second place with Steve Beaufoy’s recently purchased 44.7 Outrageous coming in third.

After racing, the fleet of competitors and friends took over the CYCSA for a BBQ and drinks with entertainment from a great band. Prizes from TBS shoes, Wichard, Harken, AC shoes, and Beneteau were awarded. The lucky door prize for two to join in Australia’s larges Beneteau Regatta in Sydney (November), was won by Karen Hill.

Vicsail would like to that all the sponsors, competitors, owners and the CYCSA for being apart of the event and making the 2013 Beneteau Bugle one to remember.

We look forward to seeing you all next year.
