B14 Worlds underway Tuesday on Hobart's Derwent River

The 2009 World Championship for the B14 class get underway Tuesday 5 January on Hobart's Derwent River. A record 51 boats are taking part thanks to a whopping turnout from Tasmania with 26 boats making an appearance, plus eleven from the UK.

Leading the challenge from the UK are Mark Barnes and Pete Nicholson, with a win in the Worlds Pre-event already under their belts. Also in the frame are Nick Craig and Matt Johnson, a new pairing that are just going quicker and quicker. And other top teams, Dave Hayes and Sean Dwyer, and Chris Bines and Dave Gibbons.

On the Australian side, Guy Bancroft and Nick Darlow have just won the Australian title and will be looking to complete the set with a World title. Other aussie teams sailing well this past week are; Dave Lorimer, Nick Richardson and Alan Nicholas, Kieran Livermore and Jonathan Branch, Chris Bibby and Scott Cunningham, and Rhys Bancroft and Joey Randell.
