Sail-World.com : B14 Nationals at Sunderland Yacht Club

B14 Nationals at Sunderland Yacht Club

Ullman Sails B14 Nationals at Sunderland Yacht Club 10th – 12th September.

The B14 fleet are for the first time in there history, heading up north for their National Championships on the 10th – 12th September to support the growing fleet in the north of the UK.

The forecast is looking quite good and the club with its great facilities should see classic conditions both ashore and afloat. On the water it looks as if we are going to have a closely fought championship, if the World and European Championships are anything to go by. Will Team Gill (Nick Craig/Matt Johnson) add another championship to Nick’s straight run of 3 this summer or will he meet his nemesis? With depth and several ex and current National and European Champions, The Anthill Mob (Tim Harrison/Johnny Ratcliffe) attending the event, it should be one that goes to the wire.

Not forgetting the middle order to back of the fleet, if there is such a thing, as at the Euros/Worlds, due to the closeness of the racing, most competitors had at least one very good result, so making the usual front runners stand up and take notice, and that their status was under threat. So with a number of teams forcing their way up the standings, there should be some new names appearing at the business end of the fleet this weekend.

For those new to B14 sailing, big events like this are the best way to fast track the learning curve. Turn up and you’ll be given as much advice on all aspects of B14 sailing that you require form the fleet’s finest sailors. Thanks to the generous support from Ullman Sails this event will also see prizes across the fleet to recognise performances not just of those on the Podium.

Ashore the socials are legendary and a lot of fun for both the younger and older competitors.
