Azzurra is now in the Balearics for the third event in the 2016 52 Super Series, that will run from tomorrow Monday July 25th to Friday July 29th.

The fleet of ten TP 52s had their Practice Race today in the thermal breezes that are so typical of Mallorca. It was a day of fine-tuning before the Puerto Portals Sailing Week officially begins. Racing is scheduled to start tomorrow at 1:00 PM in the Bay of Palma. Puerto Portals is a famous marina close to the city of Palma de Mallorca, and will host the next ten races scheduled for the third event in the 52 Super Series, that will be held from July 25th to 29th.

In the past few weeks Azzurra’s team has worked hard hoping to close her points and technical gaps on the leading boat in the circuit. The start of the season has been tough, but the levels of competition and sportsmanship are just what makes the 52 Super Series such a challenging and prestigious keel boat regatta circuit. For the time being Quantum is in the lead, followed by a group of teams which includes Azzurra, all very close for points.

Quotes of the day:
Riccardo Bonadeo, Commodore of the YCCS:
'We are all well aware of the effort the team is putting out to recover after a difficult season start. Last year Azzurra sailed wonderfully in Puerto Portals, everyone at the YCCS is hoping that the team will be able to repeat their past performance and that from here on in things will be more like last season.'

Guillermo Parada, skipper: “We have a lot of work to do. It’s up to us to get back to last season’s level so hopefully we’ll use this week in the proper way. We hope to have strong performance on the water and to start climbing back up in the circuit standings. Part of our season’s target is also to win the upcoming World Championship so we want to finish this week with a good result and with more confidence in the boat and our equipment so that we can head into the Championship feeling strong.”

Vasco Vascotto, tactician: “We try to be better and more experienced sailors every day, eliminating errors and problems. It can be easy to see the result of problems, but hard to get to the bottom of why they come up. That’s why we try to learn something new every day and to stay humble, examining ourselves and keeping an eye on our competitors, who are all very high level professionals. Sailing is a complex sport, it’s not enough to maneuver well or to use the best tactics, the competition here is also about equipment and everything that’s aboard the boats. It’s a constant challenge to find new ways to improve. The fact that this year we’re not currently in first place gives us an even larger incentive to win and the whole team on all levels is involved.”
