All weather workshed - Australia’s new world class marine maintenance facility now open Stuart Dodds
Australia’s new world-class marine maintenance facility is now open at Sydney’s Rozelle Bay – an area set to emerge as the city’s preferred maritime precinct.
After many years in the planning with relevant government and environmental authorities, the new state-of-the-art, enviro-friendly marine maintenance facility is now completed and is already attracting boat owners keen to take advantage of its seven day, twenty four hour facilities.
The development is the result of extensive research and designed to create a ‘one-stop-shop’ marine industry cluster, with the capacity to cater for all the requirements of local pleasure boats; Sydney charter fleets; Government, military and commercial vessels; and superyachts from around the world.
Sydney City Marine Chairman, Darren McMullen, said with a significant investment in world class technology, the facility has been custom built to service an unprecedented variety of marine craft ranging from recreational vessels up to superyachts - whilst its infrastructure has been specifically designed to deliver swift turnaround times for owners.
He said: 'There are already a large number of boats lining up from within the sailing, fishing and charter boat sectors eager to utilise the broad range of expertise provided by our specialised team of service people.'
'And despite the considerable capability of the facility to be able to refit, repair and maintain vessels from 8m up to 55m, the service is affordable for smaller boat owners,' he added.
Of other importance is that the development not only surpassed stringent environmental guidelines - but has set new benchmarks for the marine industry. It offers the very best and latest technology that not only provides for a superior job, but affords inherent efficiency gains.
For the environmentally conscious, the site offers the most advanced waste water treatment and air-filtration technology making it the cleanest vessel maintenance and repair facility in the Southern hemisphere and probably only equalled by a select few yards in Europe and the state of California in the US.
The facility provides a team of specialist tradespeople which includes mechanical engineers, shipwrights, riggers, spray painters, electricians, marine diving and salvage operators, trimmers, detailers, and engine servicers.
McMullen said because of the facility’s immense size and capability, the company is also tendering for the maintenance of large boats, superyachts and charter vessels on Sydney Harbour – work which has sometimes by necessity, been carried out interstate.
McMullen says the Sydney City Marine Maintenance facility will transform the marine service industry in Australia.
'This will change what for many was previously seen as a challenging and time consuming task, into a world of new possibilities,' he said.
