Brothers Andrew and Will Chapman from Lane Cove 12ft Sailing Skiff Club hold the narrowest of leads at the halfway point of the 50th Australian Cherub Nationals Championships being sailed at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club on Lake Macquarie. Taking two second places on the third day of racing, the Chapman brothers edged past Belmont’s Trevor Fay and Nigel Blatchford in the pointscore. Third overall is the Champans’ sister Alison, sailing with Kurt Warner, and fourth is Fay’s son Kris with Morgan Frew.
 | Cherub National Council of Australia | The first two days of racing saw the 55 boat fleet, drawn from four states, competing in 10-12kt easterlies. In these two long form races the Fay family dominated with both Trevor and Kris winning races. For Day Three the breeze picked up and the fleet enjoyed the high speed thrill s of a 18-22kt nor-easter. Following the traditional New Year’s Day break racing will resume in the scheduled nine race series with the top for boat all within seven points of each other.
