Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Tournament set for May

'Antigua Barbuda Sport Fishing Tournament'    Antigua Nice

Don’t be discouraged this year by how early the Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Tournament is. Beginning Saturday 11th May, the first event will be the launch party followed later that week by the tournament itself. This year, Friday 17th May is the new day for the Antigua and Barbuda Marlin Classic.

Chairman Phillip Shoul says ‘We made the change in the calendar to accommodate overseas fishermen who prefer to fish on Friday and take the following bank holiday to visit Barbuda before heading home’.

A one day winner takes all tournament, it’s not for the feint hearted. The anglers will compete to be the first to get the most points either by bringing in a catch which must weigh more than 500lbs, or tag and release scoring 500 points. That said any underweight fish bought to the scale will result in a 500 point deduction. All other bill fish attract 200 points if tag and release. The Marlin Classic skippers briefing will take place at 7pm on Thursday 16th May. At 7pm on Friday 17th May the skippers briefing will take place for the two day Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Tournament. The format remains the same with anglers from around Antigua and the region competing for more than EC$40,000 worth of prizes and trophies across Marlin and Sport Fishing divisions.

The location for the tournament will again be historic Nelson’s Dockyard where three days of culinary delights and specialty bars will make for a great weekend of family fun. The awards party will take place at 8pm on Sunday 19th May under the flood lights in the Dockyard.
