Join Emirates Team NZ photographer Chris Cameron as he jumps in a helicopter, and for the first time, gets a birds eye view of the AC72 ripping around Auckland Hauraki Gulf.
Chris Cameron gets around while doing his job as photographer with Emirates Team New Zealand. Recently he was in the air shooting the team’s AC72. He blogs:
Helicopters are by far the best way to photograph yachts. Stable, dry and able to cover every angle. But most importantly, when it comes to shooting the AC72, they’re fast.
With a good pilot you are able to get shots from 5m to 500 metres and because I can shoot from only one side of the machine he needs to be able to fly backwards and sideways as fast as the yacht. Tony Monk at Helitranz in Auckland is the master at doing all that and more.
Only downside is they are an expensive way to travel and so with a heli shoot comes added pressure to get some really good shots. I’ve had no complains from this one. We’ve got some really great video, too.
