A decision on the venue for the 34th America's Cup, or an update on the current situation regarding negotiations is expected today 31 December 2010.
Reports appearing in US media, stating that San Francisco would be the chosen venue were dismissed as 'pure speculation' by those close to the negotiations.
Sail-World has been told that a decision will be available by noon NZT, however organizers have another nine hours past that time to make a statement, in order to comply with the requitrements of the Protocol for the 34th America's Cup, which said the venue would be announced by 31st December 2010.
Speculation has been intense over the past few weeks after negotiations were re-opened with Newport, Rhode Island, and there are now a myriad of options available to organisers relating to the Match Venue, Match dates, America's Cup World Series, Challenger and Defender Selection Trials venues etc etc.
One option is that the decision may be delayed for a few more weeks to allow the two publicly announced venue options, plus the third, said to be Rome, to obtain official sanction on deals worked out between Golden Gate Yacht Club negotiators and the preferred venue(s).
