Sail-World.com : America's Cup coach Glenn Ashby coming to Sail Port Stephens
America's Cup coach Glenn Ashby coming to Sail Port Stephens
|
America's Cup Team Coach, World Champion and Olympic silver medallist Glenn Ashby will be a special guest at Sail Port Stephens 2010. His diverse abilities and strong knowledge of multi hull sailing opened the doors for Glenn to the world of Americas Cup, and at Sail Port Stephens, Glenn will open the book of stories and experiences he has from this world to share with the crowd at the Tyrrells Yachties Ball on Friday 16th April. Glenn was approached by BMW Oracle to work with the sailing team to bring them up to speed with the new racing arena of multihull sailing – and bring them up to speed he did, with the American Challenger claiming victory in a 2-0 sweep of the 33rd America's Cup match. When you look at his stats from 1988 to 2010, Glenn has won an astounding 13 World Championships, a silver medal at the Beijing Olympic Games, won outright 102 regattas and finished on the podium 138 times. An amazing sailing performance to say the least for a sailor that grew up in an often near dry, muddy lake in Central Victoria. Glenn is at the peak of his sailing career with an exciting future to come. He'll be teaming up with Master of Ceremonies Ian Cover from the ABC's Coodabeen Champions at the Yachties Ball –to share many entertaining tales about his time with the BMW Oracle team and his sailing focussed travels around the world. When the opportunity arose to come to Sail Port Stephens, Glenn happily accepted the invitation to get away for a weekend with his wife Mel and baby daughter. 'I've heard a bit about the regatta – so it'll be great to be there for a few days and see the racing – although I think I'll be doing it from the comfort of a powerboat !!' he said. Tickets for the Tyrrells Yachties Ball are available on line now and bookings prior to the regatta are both advisable and preferred to allow event organisers and the venue the best opportunity to present a magic evening. Secure your individual tickets, or lock in a table of ten so you don't miss a word of what Glenn has to say, or a minute of the fun. The evening will also feature the special launch of a new national sailing magazine, to be seen by many for the first time at Sail Port Stephens. The ticket price of $62 for the Tyrrells Yachties Ball includes Tyrrells Wines, Boags Beers and soft drinks on arrival and a three course sit down meal. You'll be up dancing til late with live band the Funky-Do-Dahs, and the Yachties Bus will operate to get you to and from the venue, picking and up dropping off from key locations around the Bay.
