It promised much, and delivered. Barker forced Bruni over early and after the Italian had taken his penalty, ETNZ led by five seconds at the first mark and held that to the leeward gate.

One old salt once expressed this graphically by altering an age-old instruction to 'See Naples and watch the breeze die.' And it did, during the races with patches of no more than four knots and huge shifts of up to 40 degrees.

Bob Fisher writes from Naples, Italy on the Practice Day 2 of the America's Cup World Series, Naples Day 2 America's Cup World Series, Naples: There was a time, back when Olympic classes regattas were week-long affairs with one race a day, that Wednesdays were always lay days. Some of the sailors in the ACWS final regatta might have wished it were still the case, but all nine boats were out all afternoon for practice racing, just as they had been the previous day.

Bob Fisher writes from Naples, Italy on the opening day of the America's Cup World Series, Naples Day 1 America's Cup World Series, Naples: Today’s media 'conference', for want of a better word, was a shining example of a gift horse in need. It was held in a building with bare walls and more echoes than enough – and the behavior of the 'media' not actually involved was appalling – they talked loudly and the photographers were among the worst. Interviewing a skipper was a painful operation.

The America’s Cup World Series Naples is coming up, set to take place 16th-21st April and it has been announced that Austrians Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher, double Olympic Gold medalists in the Tornado catamaran, have entered. The duo will sail under the banner HS Racing and race under the US flag in partnership with Oracle Team USA.

Naples originally hosted the AC World Series in April 2012, drawing over 500,000 spectators on site, with the racing on the water highlighted by a spectacular debut from the Italian Luna Rossa Challenge team, who won fleet racing and finished in second place in match racing.
