Abu Dhabi completa equipe para Volvo Ocean Race

O velejador neozelandês Daryl Wislang foi convocado pelo Abu Dhabi para disputar a Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15. Com a chegada do atleta de 33 anos, a equipe do Azzam está completa para o desafio, que começa em outubro deste ano. Outra novidade árabe foi a nomeação de Matt Knighton como repórter a bordo. Os dois já se juntam ao time na Inglaterra para a disputa da Artemis Racing e da Round Britain neste fim de semana.

Daryl Wislang correu no Telefonica Blue, em 2008-09, e, na última edição, no Camper Emirates Team New Zealand. 'Eu amo a Volvo Ocean Race. Aqui se faz amizades duradouras. Mas a verdadeira razão pela qual eu estou de volta é o desejo de ser campeão. O Abu Dhabi me dá a melhor chance possível', disse o velejador, vice-campeão com o Camper em 2011-12.

O novo repórter a bordo do Abu Dhabi será Matt Knighton, um cinegrafista bem realizado fora do esporte, mas um fã da vela em potencial. 'É uma oportunidade única'. O profissional fez o documentário: Black Hawk Down: Return to Mogadishu, mostrando uma área de guerra na Somália.

O anúncio dos novos tripulantes não é a única novidade do Abu Dhabi do dia. A parada árabe, marcada para 12 de dezembro, terá como atração principal a BBC Worldwide’s Blue Planet in Concert, uma série de apresentações e concertos Volvo Ocean Race
