As the F1 fever descends upon Singapore yet again, the picturesque Marina Bay area will not only be welcoming race car drivers but various local and international student sailing teams as well.

The second Asia Pacific Student Cup will be held this year from 17 – 21 September 2013, where 14 teams comprising some of the best tertiary student sail teams from all over the Asia Pacific region will descend upon the scenic Marina Bay to battle each other in this exciting match race regatta.

The Asia Pacific Student Cup is the first competitive sailing event held in the Marina Bay, and was started in 2012 when a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Singapore Management University (SMU) and Singapore Sailing Federation (SSF) in March 2012, to promote keelboat sailing and sailing related initiatives among the tertiary youth in Singapore.

The regatta this year is organized by the vibrant sailors from SMU.

This year, participants from Singapore, Australia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Ireland, Thailand and China will be representing their tertiary institution by battling it out on the small but exciting SB20s. Conditions are also expected to test each sailor’s mettle as the area is known for it’s tricky winds.

Amongst the sailors taking part at the Asia Pacific Student Cup 2013 are world champions, SEA Games and Asian Games medalists. However, many of these seasoned dinghy fleet racers are still relatively new to the world of match racing. It will be interesting to see if these sailors will be able to translate their dinghy fleet racing skills to keelboat match racing. Racing is expected to be tight as it is still anyone’s game. Will a rising star or a seasoned salt hoist the Cup?

Get ready for some fantastic match racing at the Asia Pacific Student Cup 2013.
