2015 Sperry Top-Sider Charleston Race Week - Nearly one year ago, the first Farr 280 “Chessie Racing” was about to debut at Charleston Race Week. Chessie Racing went on to win the competitive CRW PHRF1 class which began a string of enormous accomplishments for this new grand prix one design class, including several other handicap racing victories and multiple boat of the year awards. This year, five Farr 280s are in Charleston, ready for their first one design start of 2015. Momentum continues to build for a strong fleet on the east coast of the United States and internationally.
The Farr 280 fleet at Charleston Race Week is comprised of teams from the U.S. and Canada. Racing is currently set to be held on circle five, located just south of the entrance to Charleston Harbor.
Earlier in the year, four Farr 280s competed at Quantum Key West Race Week, with Joe Woods’ “Red” winning the PHRF 1 class. Racing was very close among the four 280s, with numerous lead changes and crowded mark roundings. With a one design start at Charleston Race Week, racing promises to be even more close and intense.
For the second year in a row, the Farr 280 class will be a sponsor of Charleston Race Week. Representatives from Farr Yacht Design and Farr Yacht Sales will be available onsite to provide information about the boats and class.
Racing runs from April 17 to 19. Find out more at event website.
