2014 Miami Innovation Award for Simrad NSO16 EVO2 Glass Bridge System

BWI Judge Zuzana Prochazka Presents Award to Navico’s Louis Chemi and Dennis Hogan Simrad Yachting
Simrad revealed today that its NSO16 evo2 multifunction glass bridge system has won the Innovation Award at the 2014 Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show in the Consumer Electronics, Mobile Applications and Software category. Organized by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and judged by members of Boating Writers International (BWI), the award recognizes innovative distinction from other products currently being manufactured, benefit to the marine industry and consumers, practicality and cost-effectiveness.

The Simrad NSO evo2 brings together the quintessential elements of today’s premier marine electronics — high-power processing for lightning fast charting, sonar, radar and entertainment; stunning dual widescreen displays; a masterfully designed user interface for intuitive multi-touch control; and limitless compatibility for unrivaled integration.

'More computing power, less installation complexity and incredible functionality is a winning combination,' said Miami Innovation Award Judge Zuzana Prochazka, when evaluating the submission.

Setting a new standard in glass bridge navigation, the NSO16 evo2 brings big-boat glass bridge style to mid-sized power and sportfishing boat. Featuring two MO-T 16-inch, ultra-bright wide-screen, multi-touch monitors with HDMI video input, and a black box that is a third of the weight and half the size of competitive solutions, the system provides dual processors and video output that can drive the two screens completely independently with different feature sets. It effectively gives boaters two multifunction devices (MFDs) for the price of one.

'We are thrilled the NSO16 evo2 system has been honored with this prestigious industry accolade,' said Leif Ottosson, CEO of Navico. 'We are pleased the judges recognized the system’s plug-and-play installation, independent dual widescreen multi-touch display functionality and seamless menu system that offer boaters the most reliable and intuitive operation. It’s no coincidence that the NSO evo2 was selected by Cobia Boats’ as the navigation system for its 344 Center Console, which also received the NMMA’s Best in Show Award.'

Easy to install in the tightest spaces, the NSO16 evo2 features two high-speed quad-core processors for lightning-fast operation, and provides easy expansion with Simrad’s full range of performance modules. The system offers the widest choice of cartography options, including Nautic Insight™, Insight Genesis™, Jeppesen C-Map Max-N charts and Navionics® Platinum, to name a few — with the ability to use two distinct chart types simultaneously. The ultimate Simrad integrated glass bridge navigation system is also compatible with Mercury’s advanced engine display, VesselView 4 or 7, that deliver over 30 engine parameters, as well as view and control of features such as Smart Tow, Eco Control and Cruise Control.

Available from authorized Simrad dealers, the Simrad NSO16 evo2 premium performance package includes the NSO evo2 black box and two MO-16T high-bright, multi-touch monitors for US $12,999. For more information on the Simrad
