After an absence of 31 years, Australia's John Bertrand returned to Newport RI for the 2014 Etchells World Championships, with his long-time crew of Grant Simmer and Andrew Palfrey.

The finished a very creditable seventh in the regatta won by USA's Bill Hardesty. Hong Kong's Ante Razmilovic was second with Marvin Beckmann (USA) third overall. The regatta attracted a fleet of 95 boats.
