by Dave Perry on 13 Feb 2013
The Rose Cup will be raced in Sail Sheboygan’’s Elliott 6m’’s, the class raced in the 2012 Olympics Dave Perry
The US Sailing Match Racing Committee and Sail Sheboygan are organizing the 2013 Rose Cup, a national youth match racing event, to be held June 19-23, 2013, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. This is the fourth running of the Cup. Ten skippers from around the U.S. will be invited. The event will be sailed in Elliott 6m’s, the boat raced at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, with teams of three sailors who must be at least 16 and no older than 20 years old in 2013.

The winning skipper of the Rose Cup will receive an invitation to the prestigious Governor’s Cup, the premier international youth match racing event, held at the Balboa Yacht Club in Newport Beach, California, July 16-21, 2013. The Nick Scandone Sportsmanship Trophy will be awarded for outstanding sportsmanship. In addition, top match racers will be at the event to provide on-the-water coaching and on-shore discussions of match racing, including the upcoming America’s Cup which will be held on San Francisco Bay in 2013.

'Match racing is one of the fastest growing disciplines in our sport,' says Dave Perry, chairman of the US Sailing Match Racing Committee and four-time national match racing champion; 'and we want to encourage the 16-20 year old group to get involved and get proficient in this exciting and very beneficial way to race sailboats. This ties in very nicely to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association’s Sloop Championship program which is now done in match racing as well.'

Requests for Invitations, the Notice of Race and additional information are available on the Sail Sheboygan website or by calling 920.889.0758. Requests for Invitations received by April 15, 2013, will receive preference.
