2008 Bob Bavier Team Race

by Alice Manard, Dir. of Sailing, Col. of Charleston on 26 Feb 2008
SW
Regatta Highlights:

Saturday: Great conditions for Day one of the Bob Bavier Team Race Intersectional at the College of Charleston: sunny skies, air temps in the high-60's. 64 races (two round robins plus two flights of round robin #3) were completed today on the Cooper River with a strong ebb tide for most of the day. The breeze was from the west/southwest all day, starting at eight to10 knots and building to 15-20 by the afternoon before moderating back to the five to10 range for the last few flights. Three protests were filed resulting in one DSQ; no major breakdowns.

Sunday: Breeze was from the ENE all day, ranging from five to10 knots. Racing took place to the north of the Yorktown with an ebb tide all day, so it was flat water and shifty conditions. We completed round robin #3 and did a single final four/consolation round. Five protests were heard resulting in one DSQ; no breakdowns on Sunday.

Huge thanks to our PRO John Bowden and head judge Ed Norton for volunteering their time and running a great event. And a big thanks to Nick Ewenson and the CofC team for all of their work. Congrats to the St. Mary's Seahawks.
