2004 Olympics News

After a long day of meetings, the Yngling has been chosen as the women's keelboat for the Olympic
regatta in Athens in 2004. It beat the J-22, by nine votes at the final Council's meeting to complete
the eleven boat 'slate' which will be presented to the IOC.

A three-person boat was eventually chosen in place of the four person boat originally proposed to
allow more countries to compete in the Olympic regatta where the entries are restricted to 400
athletes. In the end only the Yngling and the J22 were given serious consideration. The J22 was
agreed to be better established in more countries but in the end the Yngling won through as it was
felt better suited to a three person crew.
